Born in Yakima, Washington on Mar. 12, 1932; departed on Nov. 8, 2007 and resided in Pasco, WA. Service of Remembrance: Saturday Nov. 17, 2007. |
Richard E. “Rich” Chapman, age 75 of Pasco, passed away peacefully at home on November 8, 2007. Rich was born in Yakima in 1932 to Herman E. & Claire Chapman. |
As a young boy the family moved to Pasco. They lived in Parkside Homes for a time then moved out on a farm on Argent Rd. He attended Whiter School, Jr. High at the Navy Base and Pasco High School. |
He entered the U. S. Navy in August 1951 and following his medical discharge in 1953 he returned to Pasco and worked for Twin City Motor Supply. He began working in the construction field in the early 1960’s and was a member of Carpenters Local 1849 for over 35 years. He worked on many of the local schools, dams and office buildings in and around the Tri-Cities along with building many homes. He often said his most fulfilling job was volunteering his time in helping to build the Tri-City Chaplaincy Hospice House in Kennewick. |
He met his wife, Glenda (Cason), in high school and they were married in June 1952 and raised three children in Pasco. |
He loved woodworking and working in his shop many hours in the evenings making things for his family and grandchildren. He always enjoyed helping other people with projects they might have. After retiring in 1995 he furthered his enjoyment of camping, traveling, working in the yard, and spending time with his friends, family and grandchildren who were very important to him. He was a great tease and the children can attest to that. |
He was a member of the Community of Christ church in Richland. Music was an important part of his life and he had the joy of being a member of the Tri-City Chordsmen singing group for almost two years. |
He will truly be missed by his family and friends for his sense of humor, love and willingness to help others. |
Rich is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Glenda of Pasco, son Stephen (Traci) of West Richland, Gayle Potts (Brian) of Pahrump, NV. Sharon Kliegl (Dean) of Issaquah, WA. He leaves two brothers, Jim (Shirley) of Auburn, WA, Hugh (Daisy), of Spokane, WA, mother, Claire Chapman of Spokane and seven wonderful grandchildren, Brianna and Alexis Potts, Stephanie, Mason and Blake Chapman, and Harrison and Mariah Kliegl along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. |
Preceding him in death were his father Herman E. Chapman, grandparents, and numerous aunts and uncles. |
A Memorial Service and celebration of his life will be held Saturday, November 17th, 2007 at 1 p.m., at Mueller’s Chapel of the Falls, 314 W. First Avenue in Kennewick, WA. |
